WOMAN IN HER 70`S KILLED IN GRAFTON ROAD FATALITY

A woman has died in a single-vehicle accident in the north of Fresh South Wales. Police say a Toyota Camry was travelling along the Pacific Highway at Clarenza, near Grafton, when it left the road and crashed into a cement drain and embankment shortly before 8am today. The female driver, aged 77, was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition, but passed away at about 10am.

Fathers` Day fanfare greeted Australian sport`s greatest prize today as it toured Lismore. Slew of racing fans elevated the Melbourne Cup, as it continued its fifteenth annual tour of Australia and Fresh Zealand.​

SULLOHERN TURNS ATTENTION TO FERNLEIGH fifteen

She won the city to surf in epic style, but former Newcastle runner Celia Sullohern won`t be pushing for a begin at next year`s commonwealth Games ' despite running a qualifying time. The twenty five year-old was back in town today to promote the Fernleigh 15. Tomorrow marks fifty days until the event, and Sullohern will be taking part ' for the very first time since setting the course record in 2014. Sullohern is eyeing off a potential commence at the Melbourne Marathon in October.

SHARK NETS Comeback TO THE NORTH COAST

The North Coast`s very controversial shark net trial will proceed this summer. The NSW Government says there`ll be less by-catch ' but those who oppose the nets aren`t persuaded.

The Casino babysitter who was at the wheel when four-year-old Elle Underhill died in a car crash in two thousand fifteen ' has had the two most serious charges against her dropped. The little female`s family incapable to hide its shock that Courteney Pearl Matthews would no longer face dangerous driving charges

DRIVER TO FACE COURT AFTER GRAFTON FATAL

A man will face court after a fatal crash in the north of the state in late August. The death occurred when a Holden Astra left the road and hit a drain on Back Lane in Junction Hill near Grafton, just before 1am on August 22. A 24-year-old man, who had been travelling as a rear-seat passenger died at the scene. Two female passengers, both aged 17, and the 18-year-old masculine driver were taken to hospital with non-life menacing injuries. Yesterday, police charged the driver with a range of offences, including dangerous driving causing death, and not conforming with P1 confinements. He will emerge in court in November.

TWO CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST COURTNEY MATTHEWS

Two charges have been dropped against the babysitter who was driving a car when it crashed near Casino in the state`s north, killing the four-year-old daughter of a local police officer. Magistrate Michael Dakin agreed with the defence that the evidence introduced would not display, to a jury, that Courtney Matthews` driving was dangerous when her Mazda three hundred twenty three crossed onto the wrong side of the road. Four-year-old Elle Underhill died in the crash, two other children in the car survived. Her father, Sergeant Steve Underhill, was one of the very first officers to arrive at the scene. Matthews no longer faces charges of dangerous driving occasioning death and dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm. She still faces one count of negligent driving occasioning death and one of negligent driving occasioning bodily harm.

CASINO SCHOOL TO AWARD ANZAC SCHOLARSHIP

One fortunate student from St Mary`s Casino, will soon tour European battlegrounds our diggers fought on during World War 1. The school is among just twenty via Fresh South Wales, chosen to award a Premier`s ANZAC Memorial Scholarship.

LISMORE COUNCIL WARNED NOT TO Switch AUSTRALIA DAY

The department for Immigration and Border Protection has threatened to revoke Lismore City Council`s right to hold citizenship ceremonies, if it switches the date of its Australia Day celebrations. In a strongly-worded letter, Assistant Minister Alex Hawke stressed councils must not use citizenship ceremonies as a promotional contraption for an anti-national day event. It comes three weeks after Councillor Vanessa Ekins moved a motility for council to consider switching the date. “It`s a bit of chest-beating by the Federal Government ' I think they`re feeling a bit on the back-foot but what we`re attempting to do in Lismore is embark a conversation with our community” Lismore is one of a handful of councils across the country, looking into alternative dates for Australia Day celebrations.
