Adults, juvenile charged in pursue, stolen vehicle

THOMASVILLE — An scene that began in a Thomasville neighborhood late Tuesday morning ended at the Cairo city boundaries after a high-speed pursue involving suspects and lawmen from several jurisdictions.

A McKinley Street resident called police to report a man attempting to come in her vehicle.

“The victim actually eyed this going on,” said Sgt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division assistant commander.

The victim confronted the man, who left on foot and was seen talking to people in a white Toyota. The woman provided police with a description of the man and the tag number on the white car. Police soon found the man on Martin Luther King Drive.

As police were talking to the man, the white car drove by. A check of the license plate verified it was the vehicle the woman had seen near her house. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Tallahassee, Florida.

Officers attempted to stop the Toyota. “It did not stop,” Knifer said.

The car headed west on U.S. 84. Police notified Thomas County and Grady County sheriffs’ offices and Cairo police. The car was stopped at the Cairo city thresholds.

Through interviews, detectives learned two others were involved with the stolen vehicle.

“Those individuals were apprehended in Thomasville at a house in the McKinley neighborhood,” Knifer said.
