DETROIT (AP) – Nissan is turning over a fresh Leaf with the latest version of the world’s top-selling electrified car. The company is adding forty three miles to the Leaf’s range, bringing it to one hundred fifty miles per charge. It’s also cutting the price by $690 to just under $30,000. But the range is still bashful of Tesla’s Model three and the Chevrolet Bolt, both of which are more expensive but can go more than two hundred miles per charge.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – Scientists say they’ve confirmed the discovery of grass carp eggs in a tributary of Lake Erie. Grass carp are among four species of Asian carp that pose a threat to the Excellent Lakes. The most feared are silver and bighead carp, which eat plankton and could destabilize food chains. But grass carp are also a problem because they eat big amounts of valuable plants.
COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) – Authorities in southwestern Michigan have positively identified all five Kalamazoo teenagers killed when the speeding car they were in burst into flames after ramming into a tree. The Kalamazoo County sheriff’s office says Tuesday that the victims were 15-year-old Marshawn Williams and Jaquarius Hegler, 16-year-old Elexus Hillsman and Cortavian Murphy, and 17-year-old Deztanee Cobb. Police estimated their car was traveling about one hundred mph before crashing shortly before one a.m. Saturday.
FLINT, Mich. (AP) – Service lines have been substituted at more than Two,800 Flint homes during phase four of an effort to help fix the city’s lead-tainted water crisis. The mayor’s office says substituting the lines is part of a plan to put fresh water pipes in 6,000 homes this year. Flint switched from Detroit’s water system to the Flint Sea in 2014. The sea water was not decently treated to prevent pipe corrosion.
