McDowell car pursue finishes with drug arrest
The diagram from the report shows the moment when Trooper Childres initiated at PIT maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle. Childres is listed as ‘Vehicle Trio,’ Williams is ‘Vehicle 1’ and Frady is ‘Vehicle 2’.
Quinten Rashawn Williams
A Wake County man is under a $100,000 bond after running from troopers and getting busted with drugs in McDowell County.
Trooper M.B. Childres of the N.C. Highway Patrol charged Quinten Rashawn Williams, of three thousand sixteen Drayford Way in Garner, with felony elude arrest with motor vehicle and two counts of trafficking heroin.
Sgt. J.E. Reid is investigating the incident and said that Childres was attempting to stop Williams for speeding down Old Fort Mountain on Sunday, June 17.
“He caught up to him and the vehicle got off the exit ramp at the seventy two and the pursue began down seventy west in Old Fort. The suspect vehicle got on I-40 eastbound at Parker Padgett Road. He then exited from the interstate to Sugar Hill Road and Trooper Childres initiated at PIT,” Reid told the newspaper.
A PIT is a precision immobilization mechanism law enforcement use by pulling alongside the pursuit vehicle and aligning their front wheels with the suspect’s back wheels, then steering sharply into the vehicle causing the car to skid or spin out.
During that maneuver, Williams’ two thousand fifteen Chrysler spun around in the roadway and into the path of a two thousand four Hyundai driven by Kevin Nathaniel Frady, of Lukin Street in Marion. The harm to Frady’s vehicle was estimated at $Four,000 and he was not injured, according to the wreck report.
Williams and a passenger in his vehicle were taken to the McDowell Hospital and were treated and released.
Childres was not injured and his car had an estimated $900 in harm. A road sign was struck when exiting the interstate but was not bruised.
During an investigation of the vehicle, troopers discovered a large amount of drugs, which appeared to be heroin, Reid said. The drugs were turned over to an interdiction unit of the highway patrol and sent off for testing.
Warrants from the McDowell County Courthouse state that Williams was in possession of ‘four grams or more but less than fourteen grams of heroin.’ The citation says he was clocked doing eighty six mph on U.S. 70.
Two passengers in his vehicle were not charged, Reid said. He added that after an internal investigation into the pursue, everything seemed to be fine with how Childres treated the situation.
A court document states that Williams works for Duke Energy Solar. He is still in custody at the McDowell County Jail.
